Turn a photo into a brick mosaic in the colours of a LEGO Art or mosaic set, see how many pieces of each colour
it needs, and download the design to build or to open in 3D.
Private. Your photo stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Pieces you own. Pick a set and the mosaic uses only its colours, never more of a colour than the set holds.
Any colours. Or let it choose from every colour those sets use, and see what each one needs.
The photo is cropped to a square from its middle.

Sets with pieces for a mosaic
These sets are built mostly from 1x1 tiles or plates, so their pieces can make a new picture.
The picture. The photo is shrunk to one colour per stud, averaging the light in each square, so detail turns into blocks the way it does on a real mosaic. It is cropped to a square from its middle, or fitted whole with see-through space around it, and see-through parts take the colour you pick for them.
The colours. Each stud gets the colour that looks closest to the eye, measured with the CIEDE2000 colour difference rather than raw red, green and blue.
The pieces. With a set chosen, no colour is used more often than the set holds. When a colour runs out, the studs that lose least by changing move to their next best colour, so the whole picture stays as close as it can. Studs in see-through parts of the photo count for less, so they change first, and when many studs would lose the same, a fixed pattern picks which ones change, so the swaps spread evenly instead of piling up in stripes.
Smooth shading. With smooth shading on, each stud passes part of its colour error to its neighbours, so mixes of nearby colours suggest shades the set does not have. The piece limits still hold.
The sets. Once you choose a photo, the sets below are sorted by how closely their pieces can match it at the size and number of copies you picked.
The fit. If the photo needs more of a colour than the set holds, the tool says which colour runs short and offers a size or number of copies that has enough.
The download. The LDraw file lays the pieces on 16 by 16 plates, ready to open in 3D or to plan the build.
