Our Methodology

At Brick by Brick Fun, we take a data-driven approach to reviewing and recommending LEGO sets. We don't just rely on personal opinions – we combine real data, community feedback, and hands-on experience to help you make informed decisions.

What Powers Our Recommendations

Our database combines multiple data types to give you the complete picture:

Set Database
24,000+ LEGO sets with complete data on piece counts, minifigs, themes, release years, and dimensions
Pricing Intelligence
Historical pricing trends, market values, and investment performance tracking for value analysis
Real-Time Deals
Live pricing from major retailers including Amazon, eBay, and other trusted sellers
Community Insights
Reviews, ratings, and feedback from the AFOL community to capture real-world experiences

How We Choose Sets to Recommend

When creating buying guides, comparisons, or "best of" lists, we evaluate sets based on:

1

Data-Driven Metrics

  • Price per piece – Is this set a good value compared to others in its theme?
  • Piece count – How complex is the build? How long will it take?
  • Dimensions – Will it fit in your display space?
  • Release year – Is it newly released or about to retire?
  • Theme & category – Does it match the user's interests?
2

Use Case Focus

We match sets to specific use cases:

  • Kids vs Adults – Age-appropriate complexity and themes
  • Display vs Play – Sturdy builds vs playability
  • Budget – Value at different price points
  • Build time – Quick builds vs weekend projects
  • Space constraints – Compact vs large display pieces
3

Community Reception

Where possible, we factor in fan reception and long-term popularity. We look at what AFOLs are saying, which sets have stood the test of time, and which new releases are generating buzz.

Our Independence Promise

No paid rankings. Brands cannot pay to change our rankings or reviews. While we may use affiliate links to retailers, our recommendations are based on data and our editorial judgment – not payments from manufacturers or retailers.

Sponsored content is clearly labeled. If a brand ever sponsors content (e.g., a review or comparison), we will clearly label it as "Sponsored" or "Paid Partnership" at the top of the article. We have not yet accepted any sponsored content.

How We Use AI

BlockTalk AI and some summaries on this site are powered by AI. However, we ground AI in real data to minimize errors:

  • BlockTalk connects to our LEGO database (Rebrickable + BrickEconomy) so answers are based on actual set data, not hallucinations
  • We use AI to analyze content (e.g., "What are the key features of this set?") but verify factual claims against our database
  • AI-generated content is human-reviewed before publication
  • Mistakes can still happen – always double-check prices and availability on the retailer's page before purchasing

Updates & Corrections

We regularly update our content to reflect:

  • New releases – Adding new sets to comparisons and buying guides
  • Pricing changes – Updating deal alerts and value assessments
  • Retirements – Noting when sets go out of production
  • Community feedback – Incorporating reader suggestions and corrections

Affiliate Disclosure

Brick by Brick Fun earns commissions from Amazon Associates and eBay Partner Network when you purchase products through our links. This comes at no extra cost to you – the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale.

These commissions help us maintain our tools, database, and AI services. However, they do not influence our rankings or recommendations. We recommend sets based on data and editorial judgment, not commission rates.
