Which current LEGO sets are the best value as parts packs for your own builds, compared by what they are actually made of and their price per piece, from LEGO Classic boxes to LEGO Art, Creator and Technic.
The best LEGO set to buy for MOC parts is the one made of the parts your build needs. Price per piece alone misleads, because a box of bricks and a box of tiles can cost the same per piece and be useless for each other's jobs. So this guide compares current sets by what their inventories actually contain, alongside their price per piece at list price, both taken from our catalog as of October 2026.
The comparison
Shares are of all non-spare pieces in each set's inventory, grouped by part category: bricks include slopes and curved bricks, plates include round and wedge plates, tiles include round and curved tiles. Colors and designs count the distinct colors and part designs in the set. For reference, across 834 current non-DUPLO sets in our catalog the median list price works out to about 10.2 cents a piece.

Basic bricks in many colors: LEGO Classic
The Classic boxes are the closest thing LEGO sells to a bag of bricks. The Large Creative Brick Box is about three quarters bricks in 33 colors, the right set for walls, bodies and anything built up in layers. Creative Vehicles has a more even split of bricks and plates and the lowest price per piece of the Classic boxes.
About 77% bricks in 33 colors, the straightforward way to stock up on basic bricks.

Plates and tiles: LEGO Art
LEGO Art sets are where plates and tiles come in quantity: The Kiss is about 79% plates and tiles across 210 different part designs, and Sunflowers about 81%. They suit mosaics, smooth finishes and any build that needs many small flat parts in a range of colors. The Milky Way Galaxy is the odd one out, a layered piece with a third of its parts in bricks.
About 41% tiles and 38% plates in 31 colors, the largest current LEGO Art set by piece count.
A low-cost mix of plates and bricks: Creator 3-in-1
Creator 3-in-1 animals are mostly plates and bricks with some Technic connections, in a wide spread of part designs for their size. The Panda Family is more than half plates; the Koalas have the most different designs in this group.

Technic parts: a current Technic car
For beams, pins, axles, gears and connectors, a mid-size Technic car is the cheapest current source in our catalog. These three are 85% to 89% Technic parts with more than 140 different designs each. The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut is expected to leave LEGO's range on December 31, 2026.
