📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

The Monkey King Ultra Mech is an absolute titan of engineering and a stunning tribute to LEGO's Journey to the West inspiration. Boasting 1,715 pieces, this upgraded mech delivers incredible height, impressive poseability, and a brilliant color scheme of red, dark turquoise, and pearl gold that instantly pops on any shelf.

This set is perfect for Monkie Kid fans, mecha enthusiasts, and builders looking for an engaging, action-packed display piece. The nearly 5-hour build incorporates clever techniques to ensure the massive frame remains sturdy while integrating fun play features like rocket boosters and a light brick for the Golden Sight power.

Skip this if you prefer sleek, modular architecture or have strict space limitations for your display area. At this scale, the ultra mech demands serious vertical shelf space, though you could consider smaller Monkie Kid sets like the White Dragon Horse Jet if your real estate is limited.

⏳ Current release

The LEGO Monkie Kid theme continues to be a darling for savvy collectors due to its limited retail distribution and high-end design standards. At 1,715 pieces for $159.99, the baseline value is solid, but the inclusion of iconic villains like the Yellow Tusk Elephant and Azure Lion alongside the Monkey King makes this a heavy hitter for character collectors. As a flagship mech for the theme following the beloved 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech, 80045-1 carries immense legacy appeal. Once this set retires, the secondary market demand is expected to climb steadily, similar to its predecessor. Long-term appreciation looks very promising for sealed box collectors.

Compared to standard City or Ninjago mechs, the Monkie Kid line consistently delivers higher piece counts, more complex color blocking, and a premium price point justified by stellar character selections. While Ninjago mechs often lean into sleek ninja aesthetics, the Ultra Mech leans heavily into ornate, mythical detailing with striking dark turquoise and pearl gold accents.
