📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

Sonic the Hedgehog is a delightfully nostalgic entry in the BrickHeadz lineup. Capturing the iconic blue blur in blocky, stylized form, this 2023 release packs a surprising amount of character into a compact footprint.

This set is perfect for SEGA fans, gamers, and casual collectors on a budget. With a quick, satisfying build and an included baseplate, it makes for a fantastic desktop display piece that won't break the bank.

Skip this if you prefer minifigure-scale builds or complex construction techniques. BrickHeadz builds can feel repetitive, so if you want a more traditional Sonic building experience, look toward the main theme sets.

⏳ Retired

As a retired BrickHeadz set featuring a massively popular gaming icon, Sonic (40627-1) holds a very solid trajectory for modest long-term appreciation. Licensed BrickHeadz sets—especially those from gaming and pop-culture franchises like Sonic, Mario, or Star Wars—tend to develop a dedicated collector base once they leave shelves. While it started at an accessible $9.99 MSRP with a modest 139 pieces, the low barrier to entry means many were opened and built rather than hoarded sealed, which helps aftermarket scarcity over time. Investors shouldn't expect sudden riches, but steady, reliable growth is nearly guaranteed given the global appeal of the character. Sonic merchandise always commands a loyal following, and this distinct blocky rendition is one of the more affordable ways for fans to complete a gaming-themed LEGO collection. Grab one on the secondary market if you can find it near or slightly above retail, but keep expectations realistic for percentage gains.

Compared to larger Sonic the Hedgehog playsets like the Green Hill Zone or Tails' Workshop, this BrickHeadz figure offers a much quicker, purely display-oriented experience at a fraction of the cost. It directly compares to other gaming BrickHeadz like Minecraft or arcade-themed releases, appealing heavily to desktop collectors who want maximum recognition with minimal shelf space.
