The Year of the Rooster is a charming tribute to the Chinese Lunar New Year. Released in 2017, this set captures the essence of the Rooster with its vibrant colors and clever use of LEGO elements, making it a delightful addition to any LEGO collection.

This set is perfect for LEGO enthusiasts and those interested in celebrating Chinese culture. The build is relatively quick and straightforward, making it accessible for builders of all skill levels. It also serves as a festive display piece during Lunar New Year celebrations.

Skip this if you're looking for a more complex or larger-scale LEGO project. While the Year of the Rooster is a nice set, it is relatively small. Consider other Chinese New Year sets like the Lion Dance (80104-1) for a more involved building experience.

Investment Grade

⏳ Retired

The Year of the Rooster (40234-1) presents a moderate investment opportunity. As a retired set from the Chinese Lunar New Year theme, it benefits from the growing popularity of these sets among collectors, particularly in Asian markets. Its relatively low piece count and original retail price make it an accessible entry point for LEGO investors. However, its smaller size and lack of exclusive minifigures may limit its appreciation potential compared to larger, more elaborate sets in the same theme. While it's unlikely to skyrocket in value, it should steadily appreciate over time, especially if kept in pristine condition. The key risk lies in potential re-releases or similar designs in future years, which could dampen demand.

Compared to larger Chinese New Year sets like the Dragon Boat Festival (80103-1) or the Lion Dance (80104-1), the Year of the Rooster is a smaller and more affordable option. It's a good choice for those who want to participate in the theme without committing to a larger investment. However, those seeking a more complex build and greater display presence may prefer the larger sets.
