📝 Our Take

The Remote Control 9738-1 is a foundational piece for early LEGO robotics. As a key component of the RCX system, this remote allowed users to wirelessly control their LEGO creations, opening up a whole new world of interactive possibilities.

This set is perfect for LEGO enthusiasts interested in the history of LEGO robotics. It's a simple but essential piece for completing a vintage RCX collection and experiencing the early days of programmable LEGO.

Skip this if you're looking for a standalone build or modern features. This remote requires the RCX brick and other components to function, and its capabilities are limited compared to newer LEGO control systems.

The Remote Control 9738-1, while a single-piece set, holds some investment potential due to its historical significance within the LEGO robotics line. As a key component of the RCX system, it's sought after by collectors looking to complete their vintage LEGO robotics setups. Its relatively low price point makes it an accessible entry point for investors, but the returns may be modest compared to larger, more complex sets. The rising price trend suggests increasing demand, but its value is heavily tied to the continued interest in vintage LEGO robotics.

Compared to modern LEGO Power Functions or Powered Up systems, the RCX remote is quite basic. However, it represents a pivotal moment in LEGO's exploration of robotics. While a modern control system offers more features and complexity, the RCX system has a nostalgic appeal for long-time LEGO fans and those interested in the history of LEGO technology. This set is unique as it's a single piece and its value is determined by its functionality with the complete RCX system.
