Command Centre is an absolute crown jewel of vintage LEGO history. Released in 1979 during the golden dawn of the Classic Space theme, this iconic set defines the nostalgic aesthetic that launched millions of imaginations into the cosmos.

This set is perfect for hardcore Classic Space purists and vintage LEGO collectors. Building this 179-piece wonder takes you back to a simpler era of the hobby, offering a charmingly blocky construction experience defined by that unmistakable blue-and-gray color scheme.

Skip this if you are a modern builder expecting complex SNOT techniques or massive piece counts. With a secondary market price driven by pure nostalgia and rarity, modern alternatives like newer space-themed sets will offer much more intricate building value for your money.

As a cornerstone of the legendary 1979 Classic Space lineup, Command Centre carries immense historical weight in the LEGO secondary market. With a remarkably low piece count of 179, its sky-high current valuation is almost entirely driven by intense vintage collector demand, scarcity in pristine condition, and the sheer nostalgia associated with the golden age of LEGO. Investing in sets this old comes with unique considerations regarding condition, box art survival, and yellowing ABS plastic. However, foundational Classic Space sets hold their value remarkably well because they represent the childhood memories of an entire generation of adult collectors. While high volatility can exist at these price points, iconic retro sets rarely lose their fundamental cultural appeal.

Compared to other legendary Classic Space releases like the Mobile Rocket Transport or Galaxy Explorer, the Command Centre focuses more on planetary base operations and surface exploration vehicles. While it lacks the massive spaceship scale of its contemporaries, it serves as an essential diorama centerpiece for anyone building out a vintage 1979 moon base.
