📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

Pirates Chess is a surprisingly charming and unique LEGO set. Combining the classic strategy game with the beloved Pirates theme, it offers a fun twist on both. The set features a brick-built chessboard and a cast of pirate and Imperial soldier minifigures to serve as the chess pieces, making for a visually appealing and engaging game.

This set is perfect for LEGO fans who enjoy both building and playing games. The construction is relatively straightforward, making it accessible to a wide range of builders. It's a great display piece and a functional chess set, offering both aesthetic and play value.

Skip this if you're strictly looking for complex builds or large-scale pirate ships. While charming, it's a smaller set focused on the chessboard and minifigures. Consider larger pirate-themed sets like the Imperial Flagship (10210-1) for a more substantial building experience.

⏳ Retired

The Pirates Chess set (852751-1) presents a mixed investment outlook. Its unique concept and association with the popular Pirates theme contribute to its collectibility. The set's age and retirement status have already driven up its price significantly above MSRP. However, the relatively low piece count and specialized nature of the set might limit its potential for exponential growth compared to larger, more iconic sets. Stable price trend suggests consistent demand. Monitor the market closely, as fluctuations can occur based on overall LEGO market trends and renewed interest in the Pirates theme.
