📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

Riddles for The Ring is a quintessential slice of early 2010s LEGO nostalgia. Launched alongside Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, this tiny 105-piece impulse buy manages to capture one of the most iconic literary showdowns in fantasy history with surprising charm.

This set is perfect for Tolkien completionists and fans of classic LEGO Lord of the Rings. At just 105 pieces, the build is a quick five-minute affair, but the inclusion of the early version of Gollum and Bilbo Baggins makes it an absolute must-have for minifigure collectors who missed out during its 2012 run.

Skip this if you are expecting a substantial building experience or modern display piece. Given its high aftermarket price tag today, casual builders will find better value in contemporary sets rather than paying collector premiums for a basic cavern vignette.

⏳ Retired

As part of the retired and highly sought-after The Hobbit theme, 79000-1 Riddles for The Ring has enjoyed a strong upward price trend on the secondary market. With an original MSRP of just $9.99, its current value sits significantly higher, driven primarily by the exclusive and hard-to-find Gollum and Bilbo minifigures rather than the brick inventory itself. Licensing restrictions from Middle-earth properties mean LEGO rarely revisits these specific scenes, creating a permanent supply bottleneck for new collectors entering the hobby. While the set carries inherent investment risks like any speculative asset—such as potential future theme revivals or market corrections—its iconic status as a micro-diorama ensures steady long-term demand from Tolkien enthusiasts.
