📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots (72423) is a nostalgic masterpiece that brings DreamWorks' beloved ogre and his crew to the brick-built world. Capturing the quirky charm of Far Far Away, this 1,403-piece display set brilliantly translates beloved animated characters into tangible art complete with an iconic swamp base.

This set is perfect for adult animation fans, millennial collectors, and anyone who grew up quoting the 2001 classic. Offering a relaxing intermediate build and a footprint that makes for a fantastic conversation-starting desk or shelf piece, it strikes a great balance between character sculpting and environmental storytelling.

Skip this if you are strictly a minifigure collector or prefer sprawling playsets over display models. Since it features posable brick-built figures rather than standard minifigures for the main trio, purists looking for traditional character scales might want to pass.

⏳ Current release

As the flagship entry for the Shrek theme, set 72423-1 holds exceptionally strong retirement investment potential. Licensed animated properties from the early 2000s command intense nostalgic appeal among adult collectors with disposable income, similar to the trajectory of classic nostalgic themes. With 1,403 pieces at a reasonable $129.99 MSRP, its value proposition out of the box is solid, meaning fewer buyers will be looking to part it out immediately. Once this set retires, the scarcity of official Shrek merchandise in LEGO form is expected to trigger a significant spike in secondary market demand.
