📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

Air Race Jet is a remarkably ambitious Technic flagship that captures the high-octane world of air racing. With over 1,100 pieces and sophisticated motorized functions, this retired 2017 set delivers an engaging mechanical challenge rarely seen in aviation-themed Technic models.

This set is perfect for advanced Technic builders and aviation enthusiasts. The complex gearboxes, retractable landing gear, and adjustable jet nozzles provide a deeply satisfying building experience that looks fantastic on display.

Skip this if you prefer traditional system builds or dislike complex gear routing. Because it relies heavily on intricate Technic beams and pins, younger or less patient builders might find troubleshooting the motorized functions frustrating.

⏳ Retired

As a retired 2017 Technic flagship with motorized functions, the Air Race Jet holds a solid position in the secondary market. Technic sets featuring Power Functions and unique mechanical movements—such as vertical takeoff capabilities—tend to appreciate well among collectors who missed out on the initial retail run of $159.99. While aviation-themed Technic sets sometimes fly under the radar compared to massive construction vehicles or supercars, their scarcity tends to drive steady long-term value. With 1,151 pieces and a specialized motor setup, complete sets in good condition or sealed boxes command healthy interest from builders looking for mechanical engineering challenges.

⚖ Compare Similar Sets

Compared to standard wheeled Technic vehicles, the Air Race Jet offers unique flight-control mechanisms and vertical takeoff angles. It serves as a spiritual successor to earlier aviation sets like the 42025 Cargo Plane, though with a sleeker, race-inspired aesthetic.
