The 2 x 4 Black Bricks set, while not a traditional investment piece, holds a unique appeal due to its utility and timelessness. As a source of basic bricks, it caters to a broad audience, including MOC builders and those looking to expand their existing collections. Its retirement makes it somewhat desirable, though its value is tied more to the availability of similar bulk brick sets. The relatively low piece count and general availability of black bricks may limit significant appreciation, but its consistent demand as a building resource provides a degree of stability.

Compared to licensed sets, this bulk brick set offers open-ended building possibilities. While it lacks the specific instructions and character appeal of themed sets, it provides a valuable source of essential bricks. Alternatives like the LEGO Classic sets offer a wider variety of colors and elements but may not provide the same quantity of a single brick type. Consider this set if you prioritize quantity of a specific brick over variety.
