📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

The Haunted House is a masterpiece of spooky LEGO design. Released as part of the Monster Fighters theme, this set boasts incredible detail, a clever play feature with its elevator, and a hauntingly beautiful exterior that captures the essence of classic horror.

This set is perfect for adult LEGO enthusiasts and fans of the Monster Fighters theme. The build is complex and engaging, offering a rewarding experience for those who appreciate intricate design and display-worthy models.

Skip this if you prefer sets with high playability or are on a tight budget. Its primary focus is display, and the retired status means it commands a premium price. Consider the newer Haunted Mansion set 40497-1 for a smaller, more affordable option.

⏳ Retired

The Haunted House (10228-1) is a retired set from a popular theme (Monster Fighters), making it an attractive investment. Its relatively high piece count (2064) and unique design contribute to its desirability among collectors. The set's value has steadily increased since its retirement, and this trend is likely to continue, especially as fewer sealed copies become available. However, like all LEGO investments, there are risks. Market conditions can change, and collector preferences can shift. Additionally, the set's value is contingent on maintaining its original condition, particularly if sealed.

The Haunted House stands out from other modular buildings due to its unique theme and play features. While sets like the Grand Emporium (10211-1) or Pet Shop (10218-1) offer a more traditional city-building experience, the Haunted House provides a distinct, spooky aesthetic. Its Monster Fighters theme also sets it apart, appealing to fans of classic horror and monster movies. The Haunted House is more expensive than some other modular buildings, but its rarity and unique design make it a worthwhile investment for serious collectors.
