The Basic Bricks set, released in 1985, has potential as a vintage collectible, especially if kept in good condition with the original box. Duplo sets, while not always high-value investments, can appeal to collectors interested in the history of LEGO or those seeking nostalgic items. The set's age and the rising price trend suggest increasing demand, but its investment potential is limited by its simple design and common brick types. However, as a gateway to LEGO for many children, it holds sentimental value that could drive future appreciation.

Compared to modern Duplo sets, Basic Bricks offers a simpler, more fundamental building experience. While newer sets often include specialized pieces and characters, this set focuses on basic brick construction, making it ideal for very young children. Consider modern Duplo sets like 'My First Bricks' (10848-1) for a similar but updated experience, or LEGO Classic sets for older children seeking more complex builds.
