Technic for a beginner?

I’ve built a few sets, most being over 1000 pieces but not Technic. I would really like to purchase the F1 Ferrari and Red Bull. My question is, is it really doable for someone with no experience with Technic or full understanding of an F1 car, other than watching them on the TV. Do I just need to triple check my steps and ensure the mechanism works smoothly to ensure a good build? Any tips before purchasing?
