LEGO Ideas Sea Serpent (40912) GWP Review

LEGO announces a nostalgic blast from the past with the upcoming release of set 40912 Sea Serpent, stemming from the LEGO Ideas A Twist of Nostalgia building contest. This gift-with-purchase honors the classic 1992 LEGO Castle set 6057 of the same name, arriving 34 years later with a modernized design. Fans can secure this promotional set during the LEGO Insiders Days event running from July 7-12, 2026, with qualifying purchases of $180 or more.

Set 40912 consists of 241 pieces and includes two Griffin Knights minifigures. These characters feature the same torso printing found in the LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine (21358), but swap out the red details for a striking blue color scheme. For weapons and defense, the knights carry a sword, an axe, and printed dragon shields. While the original 1992 release featured five minifigures, this updated tribute streamlines the crew while retaining the classic faction theme.

The updated Sea Serpent proudly retains the distinct blue and black color palette of its predecessor while incorporating modern building techniques and specialized parts. The ship's hull utilizes modern specialized hull pieces rather than standard bricks, and the front bowsprit is shorter without the original dragon figurehead. Additionally, the fabric sail features an updated Black Knights emblem, shifting from the original fan submission's brick-built design to a traditional printed element to keep production costs down.

As you prepare your brick collection for upcoming building sessions, make sure you have a trusty brick separator on hand to easily dismantle and modify your favorite historical builds. This nostalgic GWP offers a wonderful opportunity for Castle fans to expand their armies and celebrate classic themes.
