Help me understand what I have here and what’s wrong

Hi, I picked up an assorted box the other day and inside there were these electrical parts. I have zero experience with electrical / moving parts but I’d love to learn. I put batteries in the box and connected the motors but nothing is happening (green led is on) — do I need another part or did I do the connection wrong or is something wrong with the parts?
