LEGO's 1:8 scale Technic Formula 1 line grew to three current cars in 2025. They share a scale and a shelf, so the decision comes down to team, colour, build and price. This guide compares all three with live prices.
For two decades a LEGO Formula 1 car meant a Speed Champions model you could hold in one hand. Since 2022 there has been a second answer: 1:8 scale Technic cars with working steering and engine detail, one team at a time. In 2025 the line reached three current cars, and because they share a scale and a shelf, the question is no longer "should I buy a LEGO F1 car" but "which one".
The three current cars

The 2024 car and the start of the current trio. Silver and black with the team's green accents; the simplest of the three to build and the one most often seen below list price.
The 2025 Red Bull. The navy livery carries the most sticker and colour-blocking work of the three, which is where much of the display impact comes from.
The 2025 Ferrari, and the one that reads from across a room. Fewer pieces than the other two, but red bodywork does a lot of the work on a shelf.
What they share
All three are 1:8 scale, so their length, wheelbase and shelf footprint match. All three are working Technic models with steering and engine detail rather than static shells. All three come with the team's real sponsor liveries, which means stickers, and a lot of them. If you dislike applying stickers, know that going in; the livery is the point of these sets.
What separates them
- Team. This decides it for most buyers, and it should. A car on a shelf is a statement of allegiance before it is a model.
- Colour on the shelf. Red carries furthest. Silver and black is the most subdued. Navy sits between and depends on the accent stickers for pop.
- Build. Builders generally rate the two 2025 cars higher for their bodywork and livery detail; the W14 is the quickest to finish. The mechanical package underneath is close across all three.
- Price. List prices sit close together (see the cards). The older W14 is the one most likely to be found discounted at third-party retailers.
Where the line came from
The modern line started with the McLaren Formula 1 Team 2022, the first 1:8 Technic F1 car. It set the scale and the pattern: one real team, one real season, real sponsors. It left LEGO's own range at the start of 2026, so completing the grid of four means a secondhand purchase now.
Buying more than one
These sets were clearly designed as a collection. If you plan to own two or three, buy the oldest first: the W14 is the one that will leave shelves first, and the newest car is always the easiest to find later. If you plan to own exactly one, buy the team you would cheer for on a Sunday and stop worrying about it.
