📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

Dark Fortress Landing is a quintessential slice of nostalgic mid-2000s LEGO Castle history. As part of the beloved Knights Kingdom II line, this smaller set captures the edgy, stylized aesthetic of Vladek's Shadow Knights with its stark black, dark red, and trans-neon orange color scheme.

This set is perfect for nostalgic Knights Kingdom fans and classic castle army builders. With 145 pieces, the build is a quick and straightforward nostalgic trip that rewards you with great faction building blocks and two distinct character figures for display.

Skip this if you are looking for modern, intricate building techniques or massive structural play sets. Because it's a retired 2005 release, modern buyers should be prepared to hunt down aftermarket examples rather than finding it on standard retail shelves.

⏳ Retired

Knights Kingdom II holds a dedicated nostalgic following among collectors who grew up with the theme in the mid-2000s, giving sets like Dark Fortress Landing steady historical demand. With a current market price hovering around $80 compared to its original $19.99 MSRP, it has shown reliable long-term appreciation, though potential buyers should keep in mind that secondary market prices can fluctuate based on the condition of the box and instructions. While the 145-piece count is modest, the inclusion of Vladek and a standard Shadow Knight drives the collector interest higher than a typical small set of this size. However, investing in retired niche castle sets carries risks, including finding complete parts inventories and competing with newer, modern castle releases that might capture buyer attention.

Compared to larger Knights Kingdom II sets like Vladek's Dark Fortress (8821-1), Dark Fortress Landing offers an affordable entry point into the villainous faction without breaking the bank. While it lacks the massive gate features of flagship sets, it punches above its weight class thanks to its concentrated inclusion of dark red and black elements.

A fantastic parts pack for builders looking for dark red plates, black bricks, and rare trans-neon orange elements. The inclusion of 4 wavelike dark red flags and 6 trans-neon orange round bricks offers great accent potential for dark MOCs.
