📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

The LEGO Game Boy is a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Capturing the iconic handheld console in brick form, this set perfectly blends retro gaming with LEGO's signature building experience, making it a must-have for fans of both.

This set is perfect for adult LEGO enthusiasts and gamers alike. The build is engaging without being overly complex, offering a satisfying project that results in a fantastic display piece. The interactive elements, like the swappable game cartridges, add an extra layer of fun.

Skip this if you prefer action-packed playsets or intricate, advanced builds. While charming, the Game Boy is primarily a display model. Consider LEGO Super Mario sets for more interactive play or larger, more complex builds like the NES console for a similar but more challenging experience.

⏳ Current release

The LEGO Game Boy has solid investment potential due to its nostalgic appeal, the enduring popularity of the Super Mario theme, and its reasonable price point. The set's unique design and interactive features should attract both LEGO collectors and retro gaming enthusiasts. While not a limited edition, its cultural significance and the LEGO Group's track record with similar nostalgia-driven sets suggest a good chance of appreciation over time. However, potential investors should be aware that market trends can change, and the overall LEGO market could influence its long-term value.

This set offers a unique blend of LEGO building and retro gaming nostalgia, setting it apart from other Super Mario sets that focus more on play features. Compared to the larger LEGO NES console, the Game Boy is more affordable and takes up less display space, making it a great option for collectors with limited room. While the NES set offers a more complex build, the Game Boy's charm and interactive elements provide a different kind of appeal.

The LEGO Game Boy set is well-received, with many appreciating its life-size accuracy and printed details, especially the lack of stickers except for the cartridge labels. Some express a desire to mod it into a working Game Boy, while others note minor issues like a potentially scratched transparent screen.

Somewhat ironically, I’ll bet the old Lego gray colors from before the 90s would actually be even more accurate to the gameboy color. Someone should try swapping them out.
