Investment Grade

⏳ Retired

The Interstellar Starfighter (6979-1) presents a compelling investment opportunity due to its age, rarity, and the enduring popularity of the LEGO Space theme, particularly the UFO subtheme. As a retired set from 1997, it has become increasingly scarce, driving up its value on the secondary market. The set's unique design, distinctive minifigures, and overall condition contribute to its desirability among collectors. However, potential investors should be mindful of the set's age and the availability of complete, undamaged sets. While the price trend is currently rising, fluctuations in the LEGO market can occur. Considering its historical performance and the nostalgia factor associated with classic LEGO Space, the Interstellar Starfighter holds strong long-term investment potential.

Compared to modern LEGO Space sets, the Interstellar Starfighter offers a distinct retro aesthetic and a unique UFO theme that sets it apart. While newer sets may offer more advanced building techniques and higher piece counts, the Interstellar Starfighter's rarity and nostalgia factor make it a desirable addition to any LEGO collection. Consider the Galaxy Explorer (10497-1) for a more modern take on classic space, or the Benny's Space Squad (70841-1) for a smaller, more affordable option.
