📝 Our Take

AI-assisted editorial summary, grounded in our LEGO database and public community discussions. How we use AI

Pet Shop is a delightful introduction to the world of creative building for toddlers. Released in 2010 within the classic Town/DUPLO lineup, this charming little playset captures the joy of caring for animals with chunky, safe pieces designed specifically for little hands.

This set is perfect for toddlers aged 2-5 and parents looking for engaging, hands-on learning toys. With DUPLO figures, adorable animal prints, and simple storytelling elements, it encourages imaginative roleplay and basic motor skill development.

Skip this if you are looking for complex building challenges or modern System-scale modular buildings. While nostalgic and great for young kids, older builders and strict adult collectors won't find much of interest here outside of vintage DUPLO nostalgia.

⏳ Retired

As a retired 2010 DUPLO set, Pet Shop (5656-1) occupies a unique niche in the secondary market. While DUPLO sets rarely command the astronomical aftermarket prices of UCS Star Wars or Modular Buildings, sealed or complete vintage DUPLO sets in good condition do attract nostalgic parents and collectors looking for specific printed elements and animal figures. With a modest piece count of 29 elements, its value primarily stems from the included figures and printed pet bricks rather than bulk plastic weight. Current pricing shows a gentle upward trend on the secondary market as complete sets become harder to find in pristine condition. Overall, it makes a fun nostalgic pickup rather than a serious financial portfolio asset, earning a solid mid-tier investment grade for niche collectors.
