The Freight and Crane Railway is a classic LEGO train set that captures the essence of 9V-era railway operations. Released in 1996, it offers a comprehensive play experience with a locomotive, rolling stock, cranes, and various accessories for loading and unloading cargo. The set's focus on functionality, with working cranes and a weighing scale, makes it a standout in the LEGO train lineup.

This set is perfect for LEGO train enthusiasts and collectors seeking a complete railway experience. With a substantial piece count and intricate details, the build provides an engaging project for both younger and older builders. The set's playability and display value make it a cherished addition to any LEGO train layout.

⏳ Retired

The 4565 Freight and Crane Railway presents a solid investment opportunity due to its age, complete play experience, and the enduring appeal of the 9V train system. The set's rising price trend indicates strong collector demand, and its relatively high piece count for a train set contributes to its value. However, the reliance on the 9V system, which is no longer produced, could be a limiting factor for some investors. Compared to more modern train sets, this one has a nostalgic appeal that drives up its value, especially for collectors who grew up with the 9V system. As a retired set with a good piece count and play features, it stands a good chance of continued appreciation.

📖 About This Set

All the action and excitement of a bustling train yard, complete with an engine, three flatbed train cars, containers for loading solids and liquids, two working cranes, a working scale for weighing cargo, a truck and much more. Use the cranes to load the cars, make sure the load's not too heavy, then let'em roll round the track. Requires #4548 9-volt Speed Regulator to operate (sold separately).

⚖ Compare Similar Sets

The Freight and Crane Railway stands out for its comprehensive play experience and focus on railway operations, unlike some modern train sets that prioritize speed and remote control. While the City Cargo Train 60198 offers updated features, the 4565 set provides a classic 9V experience that appeals to collectors and nostalgic builders. Its higher piece count and inclusion of cranes and a weighing scale differentiate it from smaller, more basic train sets.
