📝 Our Take

LEGOLAND Train (40166-1) is a charming slice of park nostalgia that captures the magic of visiting a LEGO resort. With its colorful locomotive, matching tender, passenger wagon, and iconic printed LEGOLAND map placard, it's an absolute must-have for theme park superfans.

This set is perfect for adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs) who collect exclusive park souvenirs and families who love memory-making keepsakes. Spanning just over 200 pieces, it's a quick, joyful build that looks fantastic displayed on a desk or alongside modular town layouts.

Skip this if you are looking for a motorized railway experience or complex building techniques. This is a static souvenir meant for display and light play; if you need a proper functioning train for tracks, look toward standard City railway sets instead.

⏳ Retired

As a retired exclusive set only available at LEGOLAND parks and Discovery Centres, the LEGOLAND Train has a built-in scarcity that appeals directly to niche theme park collectors. While its original retail price of $19.99 was modest, it has seen a steady rise on the secondary market as park-exclusive sets become increasingly sought-after by completionist collectors. With 211 pieces and 4 minifigures, the value proposition is solid, though not astronomical compared to massive UCS flagships. However, because it cannot be picked up at a local toy retailer, its long-term appreciation potential remains strong for sealed-box collectors and fans building a dedicated LEGOLAND theme park display at home.

Compared to standard LEGO City trains like the Passenger Train (60197) or Holiday Train sets, the LEGOLAND Train is much smaller, non-motorized, and serves primarily as a souvenir. It fits best alongside other park exclusives like the LEGOLAND Delivery Truck or park gate sets rather than massive city railway layouts.
