Why did Lego stop producing the larger Technic figs?

When I was a kid these were not just some of my favorite Lego figures, but literally my favorite action figures. I loved how poseable there were and they still fit with most normal lego pieces, which obviously my normal action figures could not. It was the best of both worlds and I loved them.
