When did LEGO stop putting alternate build pictures on boxes?

I just realized that compared to sets from when I was a kid, the boxes only have pictures of the main build (or builds in the case of 3-in+1s). Growing up as 50+, each box had lots of examples of other things you could make. I was wondering when this change happened. Did it correlate with a business change, like licensed sets or the end of the yellow and blue boxes? Is it related to MOCs being easy to find online?
