What is the rarest LEGO piece ever made?

I recently heard that the 14K solid gold 2x4 LEGO brick is considered the rarest LEGO piece ever made. Apparently, these were given to some LEGO employees as a 25-year service award around 1979–1981. But is it actually the rarest LEGO piece? Are there any prototypes, misprints, production errors, or other extremely limited pieces that are even rarer?
