What happened to Lego?

I’m recently getting back into Lego after being away for about 13 years. I’m 35. Had older brothers and sisters who loved Lego. There were so many cool themes throughout the years. Now it seems like it’s mostly just licensed stuff and City. What happened? Was hoping to try and hunt down some deep sea ocean stuff or new space. The last set I got before I stopped was an Atlantis set which I loved. I’m still excited to be getting back into it. Just kind of disappointed what most of the sets are...
