Preventing torso breakage through modding?

Sorry if this is the wrong sub, I was just curious if anyone tried modifying their minifigure leg connectors (Through methods like sanding down the supports) that prevents them from being so tight on the thinner torso pieces? I would love to have my figure fully assembled, but this new Spider-Man BND figure is so tight with the leg connectors that I'm legitimately concerned about handling it right out of the box; something I've never had to worry about before, none of my figs are this tight....
