I think LEGO fundamentally miscalculated when it assumed that Pokémon SMART Play would work without the iconic cries and sounds of the Pokémon themselves. This isn't just a complaint that Pikachu doesn't say "Pika." The more interesting issue is what the missing in-game cries might reveal about the SMART Brick itself... With Star Wars, LEGO could plausibly argue that exact movie sounds were too complex for a tiny real-time synthesizer. TIE fighters, lightsabers, orchestral music, and voices...
