New Republic Advanced Z-95 AF4-H Headhunter– Alternate Build of 75460 X-Wing Starfighter
The LEGO community has a new alternate build to get excited about: a New Republic Advanced Z-95 AF4-H Headhunter, created from the parts of the 75460 X-Wing Starfighter set. This impressive model showcases the versatility of LEGO bricks and offers a fresh take on a classic Star Wars design.
This alternate build, created by /u/wurger49, transforms the X-Wing into the Z-95 AF4-H multirole starfighter, also known as the Advanced Z-95 or Heavy ’95. The builder preserved the similar nose design shared by the X-Wing and Z-95, making internal adjustments to free up parts for other areas. The S-Foil Technic mechanism was removed, and the rear hump cowling was shortened. This version also lacks an astromech slot, reflecting its role as a budget, local defense snub fighter. The build incorporates a hinged mech chest armor piece as a visual feature that also conceals a small cargo compartment.
The Heavy ’95 retains its four ion fission engines but loses a pair of S-Foils and laser cannons, making it lighter than the X-Wing. The wings were extended to improve maneuverability in atmospheric flight. The redesigned landing gear looks cleaner when retracted, perfect for displaying the model in flight mode. The build is sturdy and ideal for "swooshing" around.
This alternate build is a striking addition to any LEGO Star Wars collection, especially when facing swarms of TIE fighters. If you're inspired to create your own alternate builds, you might find a brick separator helpful for taking apart your sets.
It makes perfect sense for LEGO to release a new X-Wing alongside the first Star Wars film in seven years, The Mandalorian and Grogu. What’s more surprising is just how good the model is, easily the best play-scale X-Wing to date. The way the hexagonal shaping of the nose is achieved is especially impressive. The Z-95 Headhunter has been a frequent source of inspiration for my alternate builds recently. With so many variants in Star Wars lore, I decided to take on the Z-95 AF4-H multirole...
