Need advice for vintage lego set

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but my grandfather gave me this set for my birthday, apparently he was going to give it to my mum when she was a kid and forgot. I still enjoy Lego but given how expensive it is I can't justify opening it, so was wondering what the best thing to do with it is.
