Mechanism for Functional Chain and Buffer Coupling

I was curious if this was even possible, so I tried to design a functional chain and buffer coupling system. To couple cars, drop one hook down, and wedge the chain piece into the other car's hook. The buffers in both cars are free to move, but are damped by a pair of rubber stops. Detail of the mechanism is in the second pic.
