In the Lego DC Supervillains game, the glide races don't stop you from character-swapping mid-race

So, when I did a Gotham glider race challenge, I couldn't do it, so I got an idea. Can I change characters? I swapped from Batman (who was the glider) to Black Adam (because closest on the menu) and managed to beat the race slightly easier (though he's slower on the part of moving on the ground).
