If the movie is a AU, can you ship Lloyd with the other ninjas?

In the movie they are all pretty much the same age and in highschool. Ik everyone(hopefully) hates Lloyd x [insert much older ninja], and so do I. But I was just wondering wouldn't it be okay to ship movie Lloyd with the others since the age is around the same. If not, what's Comming in the way. Since it's a reimagined story with the ages set around the same, it should be fine. Or is it more so the characters are still rooted in the og show with the age gaps.
