I stopped buying sets and started buying loose pieces by color, and now I build whatever my brain wants that day

Okay so about 7 or 8 months ago I got annoyed that every set felt like assembling IKEA furniture with extra steps, you follow the manual, you get the thing, it sits on a shelf, it seriously started to feel more like a chore than a hobby.
