How do you make models

A while ago, as I was first getting into Lego modeling (but didn’t have money to buy Lego) I started looking for a software to design Lego MOCs and such. I ended up finding a software but it’s kind of janky, the pieces don’t align well for things like studs on walls and such.. so I am wondering: for those of you who use a CAD software of some kind to make your own models: what do you use?
