Getting back into Lego with my father and daughter. Are trains still cool?

My dad recently retired and his new project is rebuilding all the Lego sets we got 20-30 years ago. Lots of cowboys, Star Wars, Indiana jones looking guys and pirates in there. This weekend we finished up some trains: all I need is a red rod and a couple bricks with the side studs and they’re complete.
