Emperor Palpatine Minifigure Mystery (SW0124)

Longtime Lego fan but new to the collector scene. Can anyone explain why my SW0124 Palpatine has black hands instead of light bluish gray? I would assume that I switched them at some point, BUT the instructions clearly show black hands (official Lego website instructions do as well). And yet the same set's box shows bluish gray. Factory error, instruction error, and/or did I switch them at some point? Thanks for any ideas! Note: The torso is definitely SW0124 as far as I can tell, not SW210...
