A month of daily mechs with ace AFOL Ivy [Interview]

AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) builder Ivybrickss recently completed her second Mechtober, a month-long challenge of building a LEGO mech every day. This impressive feat showcases her creativity and dedication to the LEGO community, resulting in a diverse collection of mechs with unique themes and functions.

Ivy prepared for the challenge by planning ahead, including building custom minifigure stands, die faces, and a Mechtober logo. While she didn't build every mech in October, she maintained the spirit of the challenge by limiting her build time to a single day for each creation. Her motivation came from her passionate fanbase and the creative stimulation of the daily challenge, which led to some of her favorite builds.

Mechtober, like other themed months such as Frogust and SHIPtember, is a community-driven event without an official organizer. Ivy used a custom die to determine the theme of each mech, incorporating elements like adjectives, minifigures, and functions. Despite experiencing an energy slump, she persevered, fueled by her followers' expectations and some energy drinks. Her builds included a fire truck and a meat head featuring Duplo bricks, and pop culture references like The Muppets and Berserk. The transforming racing speeder mech and the catapult mech were the most technically challenging.

Ivy's favorite build was the catapult mech, which she found fun to design and play with. She also gave an honorable mention to the classic primary color minifig from day one.
