The Lord of the Rings
Balin is a Dwarf and one of the members of Thorin's company who journey to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug the dragon.
Minifigure details
Balin the Dwarf is a desirable minifigure for collectors of The Hobbit theme, representing a key character from both the book and films. His unique molded hair/beard piece and detailed torso printing accurately reflect his appearance, making him instantly recognizable. The character's importance in the story adds to his appeal.
Condition is important for collectors, as with all minifigures. Look for figures with intact printing and no significant scratches or wear. Complete figures with all accessories, if any originally included, will command a premium.
Balin's rarity stems from his exclusive appearance in only one set: The Lonely Mountain (79018-1). This set, while not the most expensive in the theme, has been retired for several years, limiting the supply of Balin minifigures on the secondary market.
While not a regional exclusive or limited edition, the single set appearance contributes to Balin's desirability and relatively higher value compared to minifigures appearing in multiple sets.
