40292 - Christmas Gift Box (2018 Seasonal Promo)

This tiny set was a Black Friday gift-with-purchase - a freebie mini-vignette inside a present. At first it looks like a wrapped LEGO gift box, complete with printed ribbon and bow. But open it up and surprise - inside is a cozy Christmas living room!

The front "lid" hinges down to reveal a fireplace, tree with gifts, armchair, and even a stocking on the mantle. The detail is charming - complete with curtains, a broom by the hearth, and all printed, not stickered, table settings. Brickfanatics notes it was offered for just four days in Nov 2018 with a ~$99 spend and won't be reissued. Its clever design - a playset inside a box - makes it a standout holiday collectible.

5005358 - Minifigure Factory (2018 VIP GWP)

This quirky 86-piece set marked 40 years of the LEGO minifigure. It was given free with a large LEGO purchase in spring 2018. What's inside? A miniature "factory" on a baseplate with five nano-figures on a sort of conveyor belt - each nano-figure is painted like an iconic minifigure from LEGO history!

The whole idea was to show LEGO making LEGO men, complete with a fold-out cardboard box backdrop. Brickset explains it "features a model of a minifigure production line, complete with five micro figures decorated to represent classic minifigs released over the last 40 years". (It even came with a little white-suited nurse and a blue Classic Space astronaut in miniature form.)

Fans love it as a meta-celebration of the minifig. Since it was only a VIP promo, sealed copies are rare - and it's a blast of LEGO history in one tiny set!

40178 - Exclusive LEGO Store VIP Set (2017 Promo)

This unique freebie was only given to VIP shoppers at LEGO's online shop (purchase over $125/£100 in Oct 2017). The 64-piece set is a mini LEGO Brand Store vignette plus a giant VIP card.

One part is a scaled-down store front - complete with brick-built shelves, pick-a-brick wall, counter, and even mini brick-built goods and a tiny "Ollie" the dragon statue outside. The other part is a red LEGO VIP card built in bricks, complete with a sleek all-red LEGO bird minifigure (no printing) standing on it.

Brickset's review says the shop is packed with Easter Eggs - look closely and you see box stickers showing other LEGO sets (City, Ghostbusters HQ, etc.), plus a fun red Ollie dragon extending out the side. It's odd but cool: a LEGO store you can play with, plus a VIP card. Only a few were made, so nowadays it's a neat monocolor novelty for collectors (that red monofig on the card is a mini-figure of a VIP!).

LEGO Chinese New Year Collection

LEGO's first-ever Chinese New Year series launched in 2019, celebrating Lunar New Year traditions with culturally rich, Asia-exclusive sets (later released worldwide due to popular demand). These sets broke new ground for LEGO with distinctive Asian minifigure faces, traditional clothing, and celebration of regional festivals.

80101 - Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner (2019 Seasonal)

This 615-piece set kicked off LEGO's first-ever Chinese New Year series. It's a red-and-gold palace-build celebrating a family's Reunion Dinner. Its 6 minifigures were designed with Asian features and traditional clothing - a rarity for LEGO at the time.

The model is packed with cultural details. For example, the "Fu" character sticker on the door is actually upside-down - an intentional touch meaning "Fu Dao" (prosperity arrives). (Brickset notes this clever wordplay: upside-down "Fu" symbolizes good fortune coming in.)

The interior has printed-food pieces for dumplings, fish and cake (niangao) instead of stickers - all meticulously arranged for the New Year feast. Originally China-Pacific exclusive, these Lunar New Year sets proved so popular that LEGO promised to release them worldwide.

80102 - Dragon Dance (2019 Seasonal)

This 622-piece set portrays a classic New Year tradition: a team performing a colorful dragon dance. The two long multi-segment dragon figures are articulated so "musicians" can move them from side to side. It includes 5 unique minifigures (none of which appear in any other set): a dancing "dragon" dummy, plus minifigs holding up lanterns and a drum.

The paddles and bric-a-brac are all printed with traditional patterns. As with the Dinner set, Dragon Dance was first sold only in China and Asia in 2019; LEGO later shipped it worldwide after fan demand. It's unusual (and charming) to see LEGO do a fully regional folk theme. Designers hid a lot of detail on the dragon's scales and the performers' costumes - and the play feature of moving the dragon head is a fun nod to real-life dance performances.

80103 - Dragon Boat Race (2019 Seasonal)

Another New Year specialty set - and one of the largest: 643 pieces, 15 minifigs! This set recreates a dragon boat festival race, complete with two long dragon-headed boats and a spectator platform. According to Brickset, LEGO even uploaded it to their site in spring 2019: "80103 Dragon Boat Race" with fifteen - yes, fifteen - minifigs onboard. (Fifteen minifigs is a LOT for one set - making it feel like a party on the water.)

Like the others, it was initially China/Asia-only, but LEGO kept its word about regional exclusives: the Boats eventually released worldwide in early 2020. Its build even includes a brick "water" base with wheel-axles under the boats so they can slide easily - clever parts usage that fans loved. Reviewers praised the boat-builds and the collectible mini "zongzi" rice-wrapped sticker-pieces that mimic traditional festival food.

With so many figures and details, 80103 is a mini diorama of the dragon boat festival - and a prime example of LEGO celebrating a unique cultural moment in its inventory.
