LEGO Star Wars 75452 BB-8: aren’t you a little small for a droid? [Review]

The LEGO Star Wars set 75452 BB-8 Astromech Droid is the second LEGO iteration of the droid, and is smaller than the 2017 model. Pre-orders are open now, with a general release date of January 1, 2026. The set has 569 pieces and will retail for US $89.99, CAN $119.99, and UK £79.99. The Brothers Brick received an early copy of the set for review.

The set's box depicts BB-8 on Jakku and the Millennium Falcon. The build uses clip-and-bar connections to create the ball shape. The set includes a new Technic wheel mold, which connects to a mechanism that allows BB-8's head to swivel. The orange paneling is depicted with printing on 8x8 dishes mounted on turntables. The set also includes a display stand with a BB-8 minifigure.

The finished model is smaller than the previous version, with the body slightly bigger than a baseball. The set's play features include the head-swiveling mechanism and the ability to roll BB-8 around. However, the burner arm mechanism has to be done manually, which is a bit fiddly. The reviewer found the body to feel a bit square, but the head looks great.
