Larvae in the Insect collection? Hidden?

My kid loves bugs (like most 5yr old boys)..... especially the praying mantis. With his newfound interest with lego, we got him this set. I have been assisting him building it and he was excited that they have larvae as a feature. But then, was dissapointed that it was covered up when attaching the log. Is this a normal thing with lego? Hiding items? (I'm also new to lego) I was debating on maybe modifying it so the log will swing up to see it the hidden larvae? Or just moving the larvae to...
