For years I’ve seen questions about how you know if bricks have been substituted in vintage (pre-2000) Lego set. The common rule of thumb is solid studs inside bricks mean they’re vintage, while hollow studs started around 2000. I’d heard about the transition period when both types of studs were being produced, which makes this rule harder to go by at times - and today, I found definitive proof in an unopened 3033 set from 1998 I purchased off Marketplace for $60AUD (reduced from $90AUD)....
