Bringing Kids’ Drawings to Life in LEGO
LEGO creations often capture attention, but some stand out due to their unique concept. Erik Smit, also known as Eti, created a series of LEGO builds inspired by children's drawings, showcasing a blend of imagination and creativity. These builds, initially conceived by children using markers, bring dream houses to life with vibrant colors and playful designs.
The project began with a group of children at a local community center drawing their dream houses. The children were encouraged to use their imaginations freely, resulting in various designs, including candy and cupcake houses. Smit was inspired by a website that transformed children's drawings into stuffed toys, prompting him to recreate the drawings in LEGO. He collaborated with the arts and crafts club leader to bring the project to fruition. The LEGO versions are essentially flat houses, six studs deep, without back walls, to translate the 2D drawings into 3D form.
The children have yet to see their drawings transformed into LEGO models, but they will soon view them at a show organized by Smit. While the builds are not designed as playsets due to their delicate construction, they will be on display for the children to admire. Smit hopes to inspire creativity and imagination through this project.
This project highlights the potential of LEGO to bring any idea to life. If you're inspired to build your own creations, consider getting a LEGO storage organizer to keep your bricks organized.
What happens when you take kids’ drawings and build them exactly as imagined? These LEGO builds bring those wild ideas to life without losing what made them special in the first place.
