Avatar: The Last Airbender in LEGO
LEGO and Avatar: The Last Airbender have a history that includes official LEGO sets and numerous fan-made tributes. In 2006, The LEGO Group and Nickelodeon collaborated on two themes: SpongeBob SquarePants and Avatar: The Last Airbender. While SpongeBob SquarePants received over a dozen sets, Avatar: The Last Airbender only had two sets released.
The animated fantasy show *Avatar: The Last Airbender* (ATLA), produced by Nickelodeon from 2005-2008, takes place in an Asian-inspired world with four nations based on the elements of water, earth, fire, and air. Special individuals can "bend" these elements, but the Avatar can bend all four. The show follows Avatar Aang and his friends as they try to stop the Fire Nation. A spin-off show, *The Legend of Korra*, aired from 2012-2014, and ATLA has also received live-action adaptations.
The first LEGO set depicted the air temple from season 1 episode 3. It included Aang, Sokka, Momo, and two Fire Nation soldiers, along with a glider for Aang and a small tank for the Fire Nation soldiers. This set retailed for $30. The second set was a model of Zuko’s Fire Nation warship, which included Aang, Katara, Zuko, and two more Fire Nation soldiers. This set retailed for $50/£40.
Despite the show's success, LEGO discontinued the Avatar: The Last Airbender sets after this initial release, leaving many iconic characters and locations without LEGO counterparts. If you're a fan of the show, you might consider building your own ATLA creations using existing LEGO bricks. You could also use a LEGO storage box to keep your bricks organized.
